Hey thanks for tuning in In this episode we build up the engine, firewall, and bracings. This is the part I was looking forward to most. I image searched and I don't think any two looked the same. But they gave me some inspiration Let's jump in. You start with the crankcase and two cylinder banks. If you are doing the cowlings open you skip the pages for the dummy engine. Got my 1 oz cups ready for the part prep. After part prep everything takes a dust and static bath in water. The fit is excellent. Any gap is probably due to my sanding. This entire episode this is the only piece that had some slight molding issue. When I speed up the video it makes me look even shakier. I glue from inside whenever I can These ends are mostly obscured but just some quick seam filling. The flat surface faces the engine Another piece will go onto that. Cleaning up tiny parts with extra thin. The On to the intake system You can see the gap is where I sanded the nub That seam is totally obscured except at the ends.
Just to be thorough. Fit on this was perfect Test fitting I decided to attach the intake to the cylinder bank before painting. Then I just need to glue one cylinder bank to rest of it. Just with a little handling you can see the posts have been stressed. There is an orientation to this piece. This is the next stop but I will add this piece near the end. Indexing was not great. Perfect fit glue was a formality.
Time to get this primed and painted. They've molded the indexing so you can't put it together wrong. That's the order I put it together. There's some artistic license here. I wanted visual interest. I did my best looking at reference photos. Finally mating these two parts together. I drilled out the holes slightly so the painted ends would fit in. So I recommend putting these two parts together before painting. I had a do a bit of touch up in place. After sanding I decided to re-prime and then recoat with Grey Green Then do the detail painting and weathering Instead of juggling 3 pieces, I glued 2 together first The slanted edge faces down into the brace. Looks heavy when you put it in, it dries more subtle.
These connect to the aluminum tank at the top front of the engine. So this one goes in easily at the front there. It has two connection points This one was tricky. It has to go through both of those openings. Doesn't work that way. Feed it through the aft opening and then the front opening, at the curved tip. It has 3 connection points. Must not have filmed painting that piece The two little tubes feed under the large one. Then attaches at those two points and major connection under the reservoir. I've taped this in until I get the engine in. I've dry fit in the frame to the firewall Engine has 4 major connection points to the frame. Needed to clean this up. The paint thickness kept it from fitting in. This connects there and there.
No color call out on that so left it aluminum. I tacked it in there, then attached the end. Touching up the connections. That had a visible seam the whole way round. I try to paint stuff together you already saw the little tubes. The indexing is great. Now adding this piece. 3 indexing points. Touching up where the paint rubbed off. If I just had one pigment it'd be this. This will make all the raised detail pop. 2 steps more. The cowling frame 2 connection points here Then 3 at the end. Dry fitted it to show you the frame does not sit flush with the firewall. Here's a better view of where the frame connects. It fits into a recess on that wheel. I'm doing option C so this is the inlet you use. Now for the glamor shots Thank you so much for watching and all the channel subs.
Hope you enjoyed Be well and happy modeling..
