Welcome back everyone. I'm Jim from ModdedEuros.com. Today we're going to be looking at the South
Bend clutch and flywheel combinations. South Bend has been in clutch business for
40 plus years. Their extensive research on each vehicle means
you get the best combination of driving ability and performance out of their packages. Their performance kits have four levels. Within each level, South Bend has also added
options such as daily, endurance, and drag. These options give you the ability to pick
a clutch that will suit your needs, no matter what type of driving you do. Let's take a quick look at the South Bend
stages. Stage one kits often heavy duty OEM style
clutch, allowing for increased clamp force, while maintaining OE drivability. Stage two and three have three sub-levels
that can further narrow down your choices.
The stage two daily is recommended for daily,
street, and moderate race usage. The heavy duty pressure plate for increase
clamp load with little to no increase in pedal pressure. An organic disc material with high metal content
increases the coefficient of friction, two times over the stock-lining. This helps increase the rotational strength,
allowing for up to 1200 RPM burst point. This clutch system maintains a stock feel,
while offering strength and durability. Stage two endurance recommends the use of
a single mast flywheel. Luckily, most of the Audi and Volkswagen kits
are already paired with the flywheel. This kit is recommended for daily and street,
with an emphasis on rally and endurance racing. The stage two drag series is recommended for
drag racing, drifting, and limited street use. The stage three kits are designed for higher
horsepower vehicle, who desire a start performance similar to OE. The stage three daily is recommended for daily
driving, spirited driving, and the occasional track day.
The stage three endurance is recommended for
rally endurance racing, club sport racing, autocross use, and some street and daily. The stage three drag is recommended for just
drag and drifting, not street use. The South Bend flywheels feature low carbon,
hot rolled steel that is highly resistant to warping and perfectly suited for the friction
materials made into them. The single mount CNC machine guarantees precise
tolerances and perfect balance, exceeding OE specifications. South Bend also does extensive field testing
to determine the proper weight for each specific vehicle and to make sure smooth operation,
safety, and durability under extreme operating conditions.
