Hello dear friends of model making. My name is Oliver. My name is Günter. We are from the rc-car-online team and want to talk is a clutch? All joking aside. What now we come to the first question: What is a clutch? All joking aside. Precisely we want to talk about the Mielke Gearshift clutch 1 and 2. Günter, why 1 and 2? What does this mean? The Gearshift 1 is a conventional clutch that rotates in grinding direction and opens gentle and gently engages.
The Gear shift 2 Converse is a clutch that engages against the rotation direction and that's why it comes very hard but when it does the full engine power is being transferred to the drive and that brings the car really good forward. So, soft against hard. Exactly! What advantages does it bring to use soft clutch or a hard one? We have different grip conditions. If I have bad grip I would never take a hard engaging clutch because that makes my vehicle totally restless.
If it's raining or the track is dirty… Then I would use to the black one, the normal clutch Gearshift 1, because it engages gentler. This one I can use if it rains, when I -for example- use it with 2mm springs it comes very early and the performance of the engine is gently applied to the track. Then I see also different clutch pads. What is it about? In addition to the different springs and I also have different pads which gives the possibility to change the engaging behavior. If I take carbon pads then the clutch opens in a way that engaging is harder.
That sticks a bit and that acceleration is direct and it do not slip too long. With an aluminum pad, it's a bit different. Here it is intended and It comes very even and it is designed for a little more grip. I would use carbon pads only on tracks with very little grip, because then the coupling is directly, in connection with a 2 millimeter spring the starting very gentle.
What it the difference between this clutch and these ones? That quite simple. The difference is primarily the weight. A standard clutch as shown here weighs about 140 grams. a Mielke clutch starts from 68 grams and -depending on equipment variant- goes up to about 80 grams. That means I have a lot weight less which has to be accelerated. So it's easier for the engine. Exactly! We have the position A B C D here with that I can influence the engaging point.
A is an earlier one and on D it will be later. That means you can -depending on springs- influence the engaging point up to 2.000 rotations by the different positions. If I want to change that I have to use this special tool and a screwdriver. Now i have to lift the cover or the plate with the inscription. That means with the screwdriver I lift the plate so that the pins are out of it. Then I can snap the key in the three points into place and adjust the clutch into the desired position. When I found the right position, the easiest way is to lay down the clutch and to press it.
Now the clutch is ready again and can be remounted. We wish you much success when installing the new clutch and much fun with it..
