Kit review: Lionroar Zündapp KS750 with sidecar in 1/35 scale

Hi everyone and welcome to this kit review, this time Lionroar´s Zündapp KS 750 with sidecar in 1/35 scale. I make this video because i don´t have
time for model building at the moment, even when i have some limited time for it i can´t
build anything because i cut myself severely with a knife. Not nice at all! It is difficult to build something under those circumstances. In order to make a video anyway i decided to review something. This kit was kindly donated to me, i won´t tell you the
name of the lad because he wants to stay anonymous. He requested a kit review when motivation and time
allows it, thats what i´m doing now.

Motorbikes in this scale are not a rare thing,
there are several neat kits out there. The Zündapp bike was released by several kit manufacturers already. I promise, this kit here is special! Let´s have a look inside the box. There are plenty of sprues in this box, all are
wrapped with plastic foil to prevent damages during transportation. The risk of damageing parts is minimal although we have many very fragile parts. Let´s have a look at the instruction sheet first, on the front page
we have some historic and technical info about the real vehicle.

It is written in English and Chinese i assume. The instruction sheet is pretty big as you can see,
not that handy but we can cope with that. Here are some notes of safety, legend of symbols, a
paint chart refering to Hobby Colour and Mr. Colour. Down here we have a diagram with all included sprues and
parts. The black parts won´t be needed for the model. As you can see there are quite a lot
of parts for such a tiny motorbike. Here the assembly starts, we begin with the engine.
Some photo-etched parts are used here, too. The instructions are clearly arranged, there are main steps and sub-assemblies.

It should be easy to follow those instructions. The wheels feature photo-etched crossings, we will have a look at them later. Thats a special feature of this kit, should look awesome on the model. Here another interesting feature, we have a decal for the tachometer
and also a clear part to cover it up. Option for open or covered head light. Assembly of the front part of the bike. It may look terribly complex, but i built the Zvezda BMW R12
bike recently and the kit layout is very similar there. This Lionroar kit is not more complex than the Zvezda kit for example. Of course we have PE parts here, but apart from that
the overall layout of the kit is very similar. Here we have to use metal springs, very special. The sidecar, it looks alright to me. It is actually not a complex part but
at first i was a bit confused by all those warped indication arrows. All in all the instructions look good to me.

We don´t have to use too many parts in every step of the assembly. We don´t have to use too many parts in every step of the assembly. One can assume already that this kit is very detailed. This little carrier is a great feature in my opinion, you
can build it in two versions if you want. I was not aware of those carriers for bikes in the first place. Here we have the painting and marking variants, there are three suggested schemes: The first vehicle belonged to the 15. Panzerdivision used in North Africa.

The second one shows a vehicle of the Panzergrenadierdivision "Großdeutschland" in grey. The last one belonged to the 24. Panzerdivision, painted grey, too. This vehicle is shown in three tone camouflage on the box cover. Finally a guide on how to paint the
carrier, there are even decals for it. Good instructions, quite extensive. There is also a little sheet of paper wich
corrects a mistake in the instruction sheet. If Dragon would do that the box would filled with twenty correction
sheets and no space would be left for the parts. Actually we should be glad that Dragon refuses to do that. Let´s have a look at the plastic sprues. The first one
is pretty big and contains the parts for the bike. It looks very good to me. Here we have the handle bar, very elegant looking piece. The seats look neat. The frame of the bike is very filigree, be
careful when removing it from the sprue. I assume we all have a steady hand good enough for handling that. Fantastic moulding job on this sprue.

The fenders consist of one piece each, on the Zvezda BMW kit
those parts are split in two halfes, which can be annoying. I had to use some filler there because
the two halfes did not fit well. Here the sprue with the parts for the
side car. Again a surprisingly big sprue. The parts here are extremely filigree, but the attachement
points to the sprue are very small. It should be rather easy to remove the parts from the sprue. There is nothing more annying than cutting very delicate
parts from the sprue and damageing them. The machine gun is nicely detailed, you can show it in opened position, too. The layout of the side car is sophisticated, it is not split
into two halfes like we have seen it in other kits, it consists of several plates which form the side car.

I can imagine this has some advantages, if there are minimal fitting issues you won´t
need filler and there won´t be a seamline in the middle of this component. This is the sprue for the little carrier, there are plenty of
fragile frame pieces which from the base frame of the carrier. It looks impressive, those parts are extremely filigree. The wheels look great, good profile texture and they consist of
one part each.

No need to glue two halfes together. Here we have four identical sprues, they are for the bike tires. The tires consist of several disks, this way the tire
profile is reproduced in a very realistic way. It may look overengineered at first, but my experience
with this kind of layout is very positive. I had to deal with such tires on the Dragon 88mm FlaK
gun, it was not that tedious and the result was awesome. It is hard to find tires with better texture. This little sprue contains the clear parts. It is a bit weird, in my opinion the
only necessary part is the head light glass, the other parts could be represented by
paint or a drop of wood glue. Well, Lionroar can do this, if they want it
that way it is fine for me. Here the PE crossings, as you can see they
are bent in the right angle already. You just have to cut them from their
metal frames and glue them in place.

I never worked with such parts before, i knew it
exists but i never had to deal with them. It will be very interesting to see how those are used. There are no alternative plastic parts, you have to use the PE parts. I can imagine that it is not that hard to apply. The metal parts are wrapped in paper, quite sophisticated.

Apart from that we find another PE frame, a transparent
foil is attached to it to protect the parts. The PE parts are very thin and most
of the bits and pieces are useful. Those are the decals, quite a lot of them for a tiny motorbike. All in all they are nicely printed, but very glossy. Of course i have no idea how they will look on the finished model,
i have not yet built the kit, this is only my first impression. Very thin decals and glossy, whether this will be a problem
or not will be known when i finished the model. Here we have the metal springs for the driver seat. Exquisit feature, we usually know those parts only in massive plastic form, having
real springs on the model will enhance the look a lot. All in all a voluminous kit, it is pretty
stunning actually.

I did not expect that. They put a lot of thought into this kit, in my opinion there are no
aftermarket parts needed. When built out of box it will be superb anyway. This kit is suitable for experienced model builder fanatics, i
don´t think beginners can have fun with this one. It is good for the advanced model builder, those PE parts and
the complexity of the kit make it difficult to build. Another reason is the price, it costs around 35-40€. Not only the finger of the close-fisted Swabian
will start to bleed, but his heart! Thats a huge amount of money, i personally would never pay that, but
i received this kit as a gift so i don´t mind. Whenever i buy a motorbike kit in this scale
i go for the Zvezda BMW R12 motorbike. If you want to go beyond that level this Zündapp is ideal
for you, you can go crazy on all the detail. Thank you for watching, see you in the next video, your Hamilkar Barkas..
