Hi, welcome to the channel. In this video
I'm going to be building Revell's Type VII C/41 German U-boat. The type VII was the
most common of the German u-boats in World War Two and the C version was the
most common version of the type VII. This particular kit is the Atlantic
version. Revell also do this kit in a 1:350 version and a bigger 1:72 version. And you can see as I scroll
across the box that even in 1:144 scale this is quite a big kit.
And in fact if I look at the two hull
side, these are about 46cm or just over 18 inches in
length, so quite a bit kit even in this scale. Despite the size there aren't a huge
number of parts – there's just two sprues. This first sprue here has the decks on
it, a little bit of the railing, and the coning tower. And then the second sprue
has some of the smaller plants for the propellers, the rudders, the periscope, and
also a stand to mount the submarine on.
There's also a minimal decal sheet which
has the flag of the German Navy and then just a few different options for marking
the stand. We've got options for three different boats. OK time to start
building. So unfortunately there were a couple of
damaged pieces in the kit and I couldn't find them in the box, so I had to
basically repair them using plastic card. At this point the construction of the
submarine is finished except for the rails around the coning tower. I haven't added those yet because they would be too tricky to mask while
painting. I gave the entire boat a coat of XF-69 NATO black and then I
painted the above waterline section of the hull in XF-19 sky grey.
Then I masked
off the lower section of the submarine and I painted that XF-24 dark grey. The
wood on submarine decks was impregnated with a dark weatherproofing paint so I'm
simulating that with XF-63 German gray. Now I'm adding AK Interactive
streaking grime all over the wooden deck…..and then just removing it with a cotton bud dampened with thinner. And this is similar to the technique on
the deck – I'm making some streaks of streaking grime going vertically and
then just wiping them down with a damp brush with thinner just to blend
them in. And here's the final build So as always thank you for watching. I
hope you enjoyed the video, and coming up is a short preview of what is in my next
few videos..
