Visit the record breaker Europe Hamburg, Germany Largest Model Railway Hi I'm Gerrit I'm one of the founders of Miniatur Wunderland and we're now here in our big Switzerland section. Here in Miniatur Wunderland we have almost 1300 trains, we have thousands of cars, of which 300 are running. We have 60 airplanes and we have different countries. We started with Germany, then we went on to USA, Scandinavia, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, part of Finland, then further here via Switzerland, a big airport, now to Italy and currently we are building Venice and soon come Monaco and France.
Venice took almost two years to build. Of course, we took a lot of the sights of Venice ourselves. We have the Rialto Bridge here. Here we have St. Mark's Square. We have Venice Carnival over there. And we really tried to show these bombastic sights of Venice and this variety in these few square meters. Something I really like in Venice these days is the artworks at the Venice Art Exhibition. In contrast to our other construction phases, Venice is very detailed. Everything else is also very detailed, but in Venice every corner is decorated. Everything should be 100% perfect. So the most difficult region for us to build here was Venice in terms of model construction, because everything there really has to be recreated in detail.
And technically it was the airport, because getting the planes to take off and land and getting all that traffic on the apron to be realistic was a big challenge for five years. If I want to have a look at the facility, I prefer the airport. It's great to see the planes take off and how everything works. Yes, this is where I spend most of my time. The airport is one of those complicated systems that we have. It's controlled by three computers, so there's a lot of technology behind the system. As long as everything works smoothly here, we will fly on time. In Knuffingen is the largest charging station that we have in Miniatur Wunderland, because the charging station here charges cars from the airport as well as from Knuffingen. The cars always drive themselves to the charging station. The system basically recognizes: A car is slowing down because the battery is getting weaker, for example, and then I have to send it to the charging station. The Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg holds the Guinness World Record for the largest model railway, with a length of 15,400 meters.
We played a lot with model railways as children, but we actually first set it up on the floor, then caused accidents and then our mother said we should tear it down again and then at some point this hobby disappeared, but apparently it's still dormant in us, because at some point the idea came up again and then we were immediately hooked by the idea of building the largest model railway in the world with the Germany secti n. To celebrate the Guinness World Record for the largest model railway, Miniatur Wunderland built a figurine of the record judge to celebrate her big record in a small way..
